La traducció jurídico-administrativa avui a Catalunya

Resum

Legal and administrative translation in Catalonia has a long tradition and, nowadays, its excellent situation tends to strengthen and develop. The reasons for this situation are, firstly, the current system in which two languages are official in Catalonia that generates a large number of translations from Spanish into Catalan and vice versa. In the second place, the integration of Spain into the European Economic Community, although Catalan is not an official language in this organization. Nevertheless, we cannot consider that the task of fixing a legal and administrative language, Catalan and modern, is finished, partly because of the importance of Spanish within the legal and administrative sphere and, more generally, because of the linguistic conflict within the Catalan society. Although the general criterion for this kind of translation is to translate literally, it is necessary to take into consideration different aspects involved in this process: the translation of propers nouns, grammatical questions, stylistic questions, and the definition of a terminology of its own. In order to solve all the doubts that can arise in a satisfactory way, we must make use of the traditional resorts of the Catalan legal and administrative language and, if it is possible, try to avoid the excessive influence of other languages, specially Spanish, French and English.
