La situació actual a Catalunya

Resum

Public administrations must be able to work in the two languages which are official in Catalonia and to do that it is necessary to take two different kinds of measures: 1) The evaluation of the knowledge of the two official languages in the selection process of the personnel working for the public administration; 2) The organization of improvement and linguistic formation courses for the people already working in the public administration at the time when catalan became official or the people who started afterwards and need to deepen their knowledge. The Public Administration School of Catalonia, together with other institutions, is the one that has to garantee the teaching of the catalan language to the personnel working for the different public administrations in Catalonia. As for the linguistic evaluation in the selection process of the personnel, in addition to the due considerations about the two official languages in Catalonia, it is also necessary to speak about the evaluation criteria of the Community languages. The analysis of the situation with regard to the two official languages in Catalonia is different for each one of the public administrations of Catalonia: Generalitat, Justice Administration, Local Administration, public bodies, and public peripheral administration. The present situation in the four catalan provinces and their common characteristics also deserve separate analysis.
