Sobre la justícia lingüística: l'alternativa del multilingüisme territorial

This text considers various regulatory theories for language justice (with emphasis on the two varieties of multiculturalism and liberal egalitarianism: the protective variety and the homogenizing variety), linking them to the way of understanding the nature of the speaker, to the concept of equality on which they are based and to the option of the territorial or individual model in the application of language policies. Of all the theories, the paper posits that the most appropriate is that of protective liberal egalitarianism, though its rigidity in the concept of territoriality must be overcome. For this reason, we propose a new model that is rather similar, but more flexible with respect to the number of languages per territory. We do this because we feel that despite the coexistence of various languages, language substitution is not inevitable if the proper measures are taken to protect the weakest language internationally within the territory. We call this proposal, which attempts to increase material equality within a specific territory without losing cultural equality, territorial multilingualism.
